Welcome to the Weatherston Art Museum

We have been doing LOTS of art projects lately! The kids are trying to work hard and get ahead since we know we will be moving mid-year next year. Sooooo...we have lots of fun projects for show-and-tell!


This is a memorial made out of clay (It's supposed to look like a yellow ribbon--not a partial pretzel!) It was for the unit on the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial. Stevie had to design a memorial of his own.


This is one of my favorites! It is based on a sculpture by Louise Nevelson called "Dawn's Wedding Chapel IV" In it she took a bunch of objects and created basically shadow boxes of shapes. We made a MUCH smaller one (instead of room size) with things we had around the house. The original artist painted hers all ivory and white but we used Steven's leftover black spray paint he had from doing his duffel bag to deploy *grin*


How many things can you figure out? Here are just a few of the items: plastic easter egg, pop lids, bell, toilet paper tube. What else can you see?


This was Stevie's sculpture inspired by Alexander Calder. He chose to do a dinosaur out of popsicle sticks and clothespins. Once again--he had to use objects from around the house.


Now we are starting a landscape unit...This is his picture of Myrle Falls at Mount Rainier. He learned all about the painter Thomas Moran who made so many paintings of Yellowstone he was known as "Thomas Yellowstone Moran"!

Missy has been working hard at school too. She has been doing lots and lots of history...we currently studying Russian history which has been very interesting. She did do a couple fun art projects recently though. This is her African mask she made this week. It is based on a Baule mask that inspired Pablo Picasso's work "Three Figures Under a Tree" and other Cubist artists.

I thought it turned out really cool! The colors don't show up as good as in real life though!

This is her oil pastel she did recently. It is based on works by Paul Cezanne. I loved how bright her colors are! She was very proud of it! (as she should be) *grin*

Okay...so since I showed off the younger two...I better show something fun of Kimmy's too! (Be SURE to check out the link to her artwork on the side of my blog--she has LOTS of cool stuff there!) But I snuck into her photos to share my birthday present she gave me. A little backstory though...every year she draws me a picture of Beauty and the Beast. Well...she has run out of ways to draw it. (In other words...I am OLD) So this year she drew a red panda (which is my FAVORITE animal at the Idaho Falls zoo) holding a Belle doll! How cute is that?? Thank you sweetheart! I love it!

Sharing My Recent Project...

I know...I know...I had these great visions of sharing cards that I had made every week *sigh* but I still haven't been crafting much. Life just gets too busy sometimes! So...when I was asked to help with a service project for our wounded troops that meant I got to craft new cards, it sounded like a good time to get creative LOL!! Our Relief Society is doing a service project and making fleece blankets for the soliders and wanted "Thank You" cards to put with them. These are some of the cards I came up with. There are a couple more patterns--but I don't have them completely done yet. (Translation: They are still roaming around in my head and haven't made it to the paper stage yet LOL We'll have to see if I get them made!) I made each card into a "kit" that was prestamped and could be assembled at the service meetings. We put about 40 of them together last week and will do the remainder next week. It was pretty funny though...I had it in my head that the meeting was today, so being the procrastinator that I am...I spent about 5 hours last night frantically trying to finish the kits up to do today...only to find out that I had my dates wrong and it was actually next week! *sigh* At least I am ahead for once in my life!

Birthday and Anniversary Wishes!

Happy 78th Birthday to my daddy! I wish I were there to celebrate with you! When you come to visit I will make you shepherd's pie and coconut macaroons. I hope you had a good day...even if your favorite child wasn't there to celebrate with you! *smile*

I also have to wish my mom and dad a Happy 59th Anniversary! Smart guy to get married on your birthday so you never forget it!! I love you both! Thanks for everything you do for me and my family. Can't wait to see you when you come to visit this spring! We'll do something fun to celebrate your anniversary while you are here!

I Guess I'll Let Him Out of the Doghouse...

I know...I know...I am really behind on posting! I will try to catch up this week *smile* but I wanted to share what handsome had delivered today! A little history first...he is really bad with holidays (let me restate that: REALLY REALLY BAD--sorry handsome, but you are!) But at least he has never totally forgotten my birthday...until this year. Needless to say, I was heartbroken and he now found himself in the doghouse! *grin*

Today I got a delivery! They are soooo beautiful and I love them! I had already forgiven him, but the flowers were a nice touch! Thank you for the beautiful Valentine's Day present handsome! I love you!

The Super-Butt Bowl

We miss handsome! Stevie probably REALLY misses his dad after watching the Superbowl with his family! Every year it is a tradition for Stevie and his dad to watch the Superbowl and EAT! Steven makes all kinds of food and they cheer on their favorite teams. Well, this year something was missing! The male testosterone! What happens when you are forced to do this male bonding ritual with 3 girls?? You end up with the "Super-Butt Bowl!"

I really did have the best of intentions...I bought all the food...I told the girls we were going to watch this annual male chest-beating event...whether they wanted to or not! I admit....they brought books, gameboys, projects...myself included...but we were THERE!!

Well...Kimmy is busy doing something as the game starts...and looks up..."WHOA...those pants are great! They show off their butts...how come I am just now finding this out?? I think I like football!" It just went downhill from there. The yellow pants team ended up being the girls favorite...it made for brighter vision *sigh* We had the yellow-butt dance going on...let's just say it will be a football game Stevie will never forget! Much cheering was done when the yellow-butt team won. And who's to say football is a guy's sport!

Steven called part way through the game to visit with the kids about the Superbowl...I am not sure he understood the hilarity of our thought process!

We made our own pizzas for supper during the game. Yummy! We also had mozzarella sticks. I had bought lots of treats...but they got too full on pizza and monster Rice Krispie Treats...so we have treats for later now!

All the kids' build-a-bear Dad's had to come watch the football game with us. They did their super-butt bowl dance during the commercials!

I tried making Rice Krispie treats...but Steven called while I was doing it...so I didn't get them cut right away. We ended up having "Rice Krispies on a stick" The kids thought it was great. Nothing like having your entire day's calories in one snack moment!

Stevie looks deep in thought while trying to eat his monster Rice Krispie treat. They said their jaws hurt after chewing so much. Wimps!

My tired little girl...too much laughing and too much food makes for a tired Missy!
